Osmoglossum-pulchellum

Osmoglossum-pulchellum

As with some others, this former member of the genus Odontoglossum was also assigned an independent genus -its atypically reversed flowers with an upward -pointing lip are a feature that this species shares with two other related species . The plants egg-shaped pseudobulbs reach a length of 2.8 in/7 cm and end with a couple of markedly narrow leaves reaching lengths of up to 12 in/ 30 cm . The flower spike is not longer than the leaves and bears up to 10 white flowers with a yellowish ,red-dotted lip . Cultivation is quite problematic because the climate of the cool vaporous forests insolated with alphine sunshine is very hard to emulate (see Ticoglossum Krameri ). The beautiful flowers appear on the plants between October and December . The plant was discovered in Mexico , Guatemala and Costa Rica .
