Paphiopedilum armeniacum

Paphiopedilum armeniacum

Although there have been disputes over the correct classification of some Paphiopedilum orchids ,there is no doubt about the legitimacy of P. armeniacum -its pure yellow flowers with orange centers are almost unique within the genus . The species also exists in a rare and highly valued albino variety with snow -white flowers . The plant has leaves that are spotted and up to 6 in/ 15 cm long . The cultivation requirements of P. armeniacum do not differ much from the standard demands of the genus . The species was first described in 1982 and caused a huge uproar in botanical circles two years later ,when it prduced its first flowers in culture outside its home territory -China .
