Paphiopedilum dayanum

Each leaf rosette of any Paphiopedilum orchid blooms only once in its lifetime;after that ,it forms a lateral shoot and gradually dies . The species P. dayanum is no exception . Its white -marbled leaves are in the category of more sizeable leaves (they are up to 10 in /25 cm long ); its one-flower spike reaches a length of 16 in/40 cm . The upper sepal of each flower is adorned with green -and -brown lengthwise stripes , while the lateral petals are purple . The plant blooms between May and June and comes from the warm elevations of northern Borneo .
