paphiopedilum glaucophyllum

paphiopedilum glaucophyllum

Another Venus's shoe with a multi-flowered spike. The flowers develop successively one by one on an axis reaching a length of up to 16 in /40 cm, which , sadly ,makes it impossible to admire them all at once. P. glaucophyllum is a fairly robust species ;its leaves are 10 in/25 cm long and 1.6 in/4 cm across ;the flowers are about 2.8 in/7cm in a diameter and they are very handsome -the upper sepal ranges in color between whitish ,green and purple ,the purple petals are twisted along a lengthwise axis and they are covered with dark papillae and a dark layer of hairs. The lip is white at the base ,with a gradually intensifying purple dotting . Grow the species the same as the other representatives of the genus . The flowering season is ,on account of the successive development of the flowers on one spike, very long -it lasts from the spring till the winter. The plant comes from Java.
