paphiopedilum hangianum

paphiopedilum hangianum

This Venus's shoe was not described until the late 1990s! It is similar -looking and closely related to another Venus's shoe -P.emersonii(differences are observable in the coloring and the morphology of the central part of the flower, known as staminodia). The leaves are belt -shaped ,10 in/25 cm long ,and free of any sort of pigmentation ;the spike is rather short and bears a single flower . The plant has white tepals ,with purplish bases of the sepals . The flower's broad lip is cream-to-yellow colored . P. hangianum is a highly demanding and still rather obscure species . The plants develop extremely slowly and bringing the seedlings to a ''flower- worthy '' size takes a lot of patience and experience . The plant blooms in the spring and comes from the northern Vietnam.
