Paphiopedilum liemianum

This species belongs to the Cochlopetalum section of the Paphiopedilum genus ,which suggests what the dominent feature of the flower is - its spiral-shaped (or ,snail -shaped )twisted petals . Its belt -like leaves are flabby and green without any marking .Its flower spike grows continuously and can bear more than 20 flowers produced over a long period of time (up to one year ) . The upper sepal is very broad ,dark green with snow-white edges . The twisted petals are turned upward . The robust purple lip is marked with mettalic luster and speckled with delicate dots. The plant blooms in the spring ( between March and May) and inhabits limestone rocks in the higher elevations of northern SUmatra.
