Paphiopedilum stonei

Paphiopedilum stonei

During the flowering season ,P. stonei is a very interesting species . Its upper flower sepal is white on the inside with irregular purple stripes, and purple with white edges on the outside (this coloring is observable only when viewed from the back ). The equally large lower sepal bears the same appearance ;both sepals are shaped like a seashell partly open around the other flowerpars: a brown -and-white ,red -veined and upward pointing lip, and brown-spotted petals reaching lengths of 6 in /15 cm . This interesting Venus's shoe is certainly not recommended for beginners ,as its cultivation is similarly complex as the morphology of its flowers . It blooms between July and September and is native to the rainforests of northern Borneo.
