Paphiopedilum tonsum

Paphiopedilum tonsum

This Venus's shoe is still quite abundant in the wild -paradoxically thanks to its flowers that are not endowed with a very high decorative value ! The plant is variable as to the coloring of its 8 -in /20 -cm - long leaves (each leaf is marbled on the top , while its bottom part can be either red or green ), and flowers . The species's bronze - green flowers are characterized by sparse dark spots distributed mainly near the edges and in the axes of the petals. In contrast to an overwhelming majority of Paphiopedilum orchids , P. tonsum is not dependent on limestone subsoil . Grow it in the same way as other common Venus's shoes . The plant blooms in the spring and grows in Sumatra.
