Paphiopedilum vietnamense

Paphiopedilum vietnamense

P. vietnamense was not discovered until the end of the 20 th century ,and it serves as a sad example of the uneven match between commercial interests and nature conservation. The plants no longer inhabits its only known , Vietnamese habitat ; shortly after the species was described ,the speciemens were dug up and sold underhand to the collections of Venus's shoe lovers ,where they are now passed off as artificially cultivated specimens ... The flowers of the species somewhat resemble those of P. delenatii - after all, both of these Venus's shoe are included in the same section termed Brachypetalum . Their upper sepal is light pink and the likewise llight pink petals are conspicuously broad and oval . The lip is wine -red . The species should be grown in the same way as P. delenatii . The term of the flowering season is not yet known for sure ;most specimens probably bloom in early spring .
