Paphiopedilum villosum

Paphiopedilum villosum

Another example of a species that has been widely used for hybridization of Venus's shoes ; nearly all of the multiple hybrids sold today are its partial offspring . The species is variable both in the coloring of its flowers in size : its leaves reach lengths between 10 and 16 in /25 and 40 cm . The plants form dense clusters of several leaf rosettes - the flowers therefore appear in higher numbers . As these plants bloom between the fall and spring ,they are grown for cut flowers . Each of their hairy flower spikes bears a single flower to the height of 12 in /30 cm . On a typical specimen , the upper flower sepal is brown and -green with a white edge . The subspecies P . villosum is easy ,much the same as P. insinge . However ,the substrate in which you grow the plant should not be enriched with soil admixture . Outdoor summering is highly desirable . The species comes from the submontane regions of Burma.
