Paphiopedilum dayana

Paphiopedilum dayana

The small genus Pescatorea is often mistaken for the genera Huntleya , Bollea , Chondrorhyncha and kefersteinia ( it is very hard to distinguish between them ) and includes about 17 species with similar body morphology . The leaves are 6 -12 in /15 -30 cm long and arranged in a dense ,firm ,iris like fan . Single fragrant flowers grow on short scapes from the base of the leaf rosette and they are very showy . The tepals are broad and symmetrical , the lip is small and inconspicuous , sometimes decorated with firmbriated protuberances . An overwhelming majority of the plants are epiphytes or occasional terrstrites ,growing in a thick layer of organic material ; that is why they should be mounted on wooden supports along with a tuft of peat moss. The plants need a relatively intensive light . P. dayana usually blooms in early spring and is known to inhabitat montane elevations of the strip of land between Costa Rica abd Ecuador.
