Phalaenopsis fimbriata

Phalaenopsis fimbriata

A species with 10 -in /25 -cm- long leaves and 15 -20 whitish flowers, 1.6 -2 in/4-5 cm across , distributed on an arched flower spike . P . fimbriata needs ,same as other Phalaenopsis orchids , to be grown in semi-shade and provided with a permenently high level of air humidity ( therefore it is not very suitable for growing on a window sill ). An optimum round the -year temperature is 75- 82 F /24 -28 C ,and it can drop to 64 -68 F /18 -20 C only exceptionaly in the winter ,when the orchids undergo their vegetation rest caused by insufficient light. The substrate can be left to dry well between waterings but it should never dry up completely or remain overly moist. Grow this species in flowerpots ,epiphytic baskets or on wooden slabs in a layer of peat moss (the latter possibility should only be resorted to in sufficiently humid and ventilated greenhouses ). P. fimbriata blooms between April and August and comes from the islands of Java and Sumatra.
