Phalaenopsis gibbosa

A beautiful miniature closely related to a very similar species ,P. parishii . When grown on a wooden slab ,this epiphytic plant forms a multitude of assimilating roots whose overall area ofttern surpasses the area of the small leaves ,which are sometimes completely absent from the plant ,or they are barely 3.2 in/8 cm long . The flower spikes reach lengths of 6 in / 15 cm and there are 1-3 of them growing from the axils of the leaves ;each of them bears 8-10 flowers (in culture the number of flowers tends to be lower). The flowers resemble those of a related species in shape ;the lip is decorated with two more or less marked yellow -and -brown spots . Grow the species same as other Phalaenopsis orchids .P. Gibbosa blooms in early spring and was discovered in Laos and Vietnam .
