Phalaenopsis heiroglyphica

Phalaenopsis heiroglyphica

This orchid is closely related to the species P. lueddemanniana and it used to be considered its subspecies. The only difference is the color of the flowers - the crosswise stripes or dotting is more delicate and brown and red . It is slightly reminiscent in appearance of the Ancient Egyptian script (hence the Latin species name) ,Remarkably ,its tepals do not fall off after pollination but instead they bulge and greenify a little ,and they serve as a photosynthesis and storage organ until the seeds reach maturity . Grow the species as you would P. fimbriata ;do not remove the faded flower spike ,because it will bear more flowers, as well as daughter plants ,in several years to come . The flowering season usually starts in the spring and in early summer . The species ' habitat is in the Philippines .
