Pityphyllum amesianum

Pityphyllum amesianum

A special treat for the lovers of unconventional -shaped epiphytic orchids . The ends of its thickened pseudobulb -like stems are decorated with brush -shaped clusters of many delicate lineated leaves . Another 1-3 shoots are formed in the axils of the leaves ;as the plants gradually extends and branches up, the leaf cluster assumes a very peculiar appearance. The species' whitish flowers are unfortunately quite plain and very minute (0.8 -0.16 in/ 2-4 mm).P. amesianum is difficult to cultivate :mount the plant on a wooden support ,propping it up with a layer of moss, and keep it in a moderately humid and well-ventilated environment throughout the year . If you allow the roots to dry up ,the plant reacts by shedding its leaves irreversibly . The species blooms in the course of the whole year . The photo of one of its specimens was taken on the border between Venezuela and Colombia.
