Promenea xanthina

Promenea xanthina

It is a shame that this representative of the small (both in the number and size of the species ) genus Promenea never made its home in orchid collections, for it is a beautiful miniature -its pseudobulbs are only 0.8 in/2 cm long . The overhanging spikes of Promenea xanthina bear one or two lemon yellow flowers with red -dotted lip. In proportion to the size of the whole plant ,they are literally enormous -2 in /5 cm across! Promenea xanthina is an epiphyte with medium -high light demands . It is more demanding of humidity and will therefore thrive in a light substrate in a small , suspended flower pot or basket . The flowers open between May and August . As all the other members of the Promenea genus ,Promenea xanthina is a native of Brazil
