Psygmorchis pusilla

Psygmorchis pusilla

Common Name - The Tiny Psygmorchis

Psygmorchis pusilla species used to be known as Oncidium pusillum was so unusual in appearance that it had to be excluded (along with another 4 similar species )into an independent species. The plant doesnot form pseudobulbs and its flat ,only slightly succulent leaves are arranged in a fan-shaped rosette- botanists have a term for this :iridaceous morphology . Psygmorchis pusilla iis the ultimate miniature ;the tottal length of the leaf rosette does not exceed 2-2.4 in/5-6 cm! The plants super -short flower spikes usually bear a single yellow flower with the middle part dotted in red -and - brown . By virtue of this size , Psygmorchis pusilla requires a rather frequent misting ,medium-humid ,moving air and a deeper shade . These are demands that can be satisfactorily met even in heated orchid glass cases. The flowers appear irregularly ,mostly in the summer . Psygmorchis pusilla species is known to grow throughout a vast geographical area of tropical Central and South America.
