Pteroceras semiteretifolium

Pteroceras semiteretifolium

Common Name - The Semi-Terete Pteroceras

Pteroceras semiteretifolium is a wonderful looking epiphytic miniature able to adorn any collection even when not in bloom . An extremely shortened monopodial stem confirms the plant's Asian orgin. The stem is completely concealed from sight by swollen ,compressed leaf bases . The highly succulent sticklike leaves are 2.8 in/ 7 cm long or shorter ,and arrange in a pretty compact fan rosette. The flower spike is even shorter than the leaves and bears a single flower with white tepals . The lip is yellowish with a pale purple marking . Pteroceras semiteretifolium flowers are only 0.8 in/2 cm in diameter ,but since the plants create up to several spikes atonce, the blooming season is an event to be celebrated . Grow the plant epiphytically in a place with plentiful light . In the wild ,the flowers appear on Pteroceras semiteretifolium toward the end of the rainy season -that is ,in September and October . The Pteroceras semiteretifolium plant comes from Indochina ,including Vietnam and southern Chinese provinces .
