Sedirea japonicaCommon Name - The Japan Sedirea In the world of orchids ,there are not many epiphytic species whose natural habitat is in Japan -anyone who owns a specimen of Sedirea japonica should therefore be duly proud of it ! Moreover ,this species is a very pretty and small orchid . It is related to the genus Aerides (the generic name sedirea was formed by reversing the spelling of the word Aerides),but outside of the flowering season ,it resembles much more the orchids of the genus Phalaenopsis .Its extremely shortened stem bears two raws of fleshy belt-shaped leaves . There can be morethan one spike growing atonce ,and each of them bears up to 12 relatively large showy flowers . The basic color of the flowers is white ,providing a backdrop for conspicious purple spots on the lip and the lower halves of the lateral sepals . Sedirea japonica species can be grown either as an epiphyte ,or in a flowerpot . Reduce temperature and watering somewhat in the winter . Flowers usually appear in early spring . The Sedirea japonica plant comes from southern Japan ,Korea and adjacent Islands . Synonyms*Aerides japonica L. Linden & Rchb. f. 1863, Angraecum japonicum Linden 1881
