Sophronitella violaceaCommon Name - The Violet Sophronitella This beautiful epihytcal miniature used to be classified as a member of the genus Sophronitis , but the shape of its flower lip and the presents of two lobes on the stigma earned it a place in an independent genus. Its unifoliate pseudobulbs grow on a trailing rhizome and they are 1.6 in/4 cm . The 3.2 in /8cm long stiff leaves are narrow and belt -shaped . One or two flowers appear on a short flower spike on the apex of a pseudobulb ;their tepals are deep purple ,resembling the more blunt -tipped ,broader lip in coloring and length . Grow the species as you would Sophronitis mantiqueirae while allowing higher average temperatures . Sophronitella violacea plant blooms in the spring and it comes from eastern Brazil.
