Common Name - Pleated Leaf Spathoglottis

Spathoglottis plicata is the most frequently cultivated Spathoglottis orchid , not only in collection but also in gardens and parks in the tropical regions around the world . Its popularity has gone so far that the plants transported from its orginal Asian habitat have begun to grow in natural inhabitats in Hawaii and southern Florida. The species resembles the previous one in the appearance of its green parts . Its flower scape is variable as to the color of its tepals -they can be white ,pink or purple . The narrow lip is broadened on the end and yellow in the middle . Spathoglottis plicata should be cultivated in the same way as the previous species . Spathoglottis plicata plants bloom irregularly ,mostly in the fall or spring ,and they are native to the Philippines ,Taiwan ,Malayan Peninsula ,Indonesia and New Guinea.
