Common Name - Ward's Stanhopea [English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]

Stanhopea wardii is an unjustly neglected species with relatively small proportions when not in bloom . The flowers are 5.6 in/14 cm across or smaller ,yellow and orange , covered with red dots . The overhanging inflorenscence bears up to 10 of them . The base of the lip is embellished with two showy dark spots . Stanhopea wardii plants should therefore not be divided too oftern . Stanhopea wardii species is known to grow throuhout Central America between Mexico and Panama.
