Trichopilia laxa commonly known as the Loose Trichopilia is a medium sized orchid found at elevations between 1200 to 1800 meters. Flowers of the Trichopilia orchids are characterized by a typically shaped ,large and showy flower lip with a folded base . Unfotunately ,the beautiful and relatively large flowers are quite short -lived . The species Trichopilia laxa has flattened oval pseudobulbs reaching lengths of 2.8 in/7 cm . Some 4-8 half -open flowers grow on an overhanging spike . They have pinkish tepals and a yellow and white lip This species blooms in the spring. The origial home of this orchid is Colombia and Venezuela .
