Common Name - The Dwarf Trudelia

Trudelia pumila is a peculiar orchid with flowers of a different anatomy and shape. Its leaves are barely 4.8 in/12 cm long. In proportion to them ,the whitish flowers , 3-5 of which appear on each shortened spike ,are usually large -up to 2.4 in /6 cm in diameter . The stripes on the lip range in color between blood red and red -and -brown . Till 1988 ,this Trudelia pumila was classified by botanists as Vanda ;when it was later transferred into a newly -established genus mainly due of the shape and different anatomy of its flowers .Trudelia pumila orchid species ' orginal habitat is in higher altitudes ,and it can therefore be cultivated in cooler environment with out any worries . Its requirements for light are very high.. Trudelia pumila comes from the Himalayas and blooms between June and August causing much discomfort to the cultivators..
