Vanilla Aphyllum

An epiphytic or terristrial species ,Vanilla Aphyllum creates many -feet long ,segmented and very firm liana -like stems covered with small,elongated egg-shaped leaves . The stems produce long ,strong roots from every knot . And it is the knots again that later provided that the stems are well matured and exposed to sufficient light ) give rise to green and yellow flowers growing on inflorescence bearing 1-4 of them . The reddish flower lip is tubular with a firmbriated edge .

Vanilla Aphyllum orchid is closely related to the only utility orchid of the world Vanilla planifolia -whose unripe fermented ovaries are used in the food processing industry (genuine ''vanilla sugar'') and the cosmetic industry . The species Vanilla aphyllum is not very significant in cultivation and only rarely grown as curiosity in botanical gardens .

Cultivation of Vanilla Aphyllum requires special attention and care. They need a lot of warmth and sunshine and only bloom between October and November ( only if they are well grown ). it is better to keep them suspended in the green house in broad bows filled with an epiphytic substrate the climbing shoots should be directed to other pots ,flower or wooden supports

Vanilla Aphyllum is native to the Malayan Peninsula .
