Terrestrial or epiphytic , pseudobulbous or not . Leaves 1 or more continuous with their sheath. Flowers small, in terminal racemes , resumpinate . Sepals spreading or recurved . Petals as long , slender . Lip adnate to the base of the column ,usually flat ,sides often produced upwards beyong the column as broad or long auricles . Column very short with short spreading arms ; anther subterminal , pollinia 4. –Species about 50, temperate and tropical.

• Sides of thelip produced upwards into large auricles .

Apex of the lip entire or notched (not serrate or pubescent ).
