Breeding in Dendrobium |
Breeding in DendrobiumThough Dendrobium is strictly a genus of the Orient , the early hybridisation work on this genus with beautiful flowers had been done by English and European firms. It is only in recent years that the work was taken up in Japan and Hawaii. M/s Vacherot & Lecouffle of France were the pioneers in Dendrobium breeding . The nobile type Dendrobiums of Eastern Himalayas and D. Phalaenopsis of Eastern Asia were the most frequently used parents . Colour has always been of prime importance in Dendrobium breeding , ranging from chalky white to yellowish brown and intense crimson.
