Fungal and Bacterial diseases

Pathological strains of a number of fungi and bacteria infect cultivated orchids producing rots , wilts ,and spots. The more harmful of these fungi belong to the genera Phytophthora , Pythium , Fusarium etc. Fortunately after the discovery of organic fungicides , prevention and control of these otherwise deadly diseases have been made easier . The various organo-mercurial compounds like Agrosan ,Ceresan ,Dithane, Captan etc. which are now available in the market are very effective against these killers . Also , Bordeaux mixture , as old as the science of plant pathology itself, is still very effective when used against many of the fungi.
